TRIVANDRUM, 14 July 2004 — Kerala’s Congress party-led United Democratic Front government appeared heading for yet another crisis yesterday with the Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest partner, demanding special job recruitments for backward classes.
The party state secretary and Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikkutty said his party would not wait for a consensus on taking action on the Narendran panel report that found low representation of Muslims and other backward classes in government jobs.
He said his party would be forced to launch a separate front of the backward communities to protect their rights.
“We won 100 seats promising in the election manifesto action on the report. There is no going back,” he told journalists.
