ISLAMABAD, 19 July 2004 — Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said that there was no question of sending Pakistani troops to Iraq. “However, we could consider sending volunteers to the war ravaged country for protection of the UN installations there,” he said.
Talking to journalists after inaugurating a water tube-well at Railway Colony, the minister said the appointment of Ashraf Jehangir Qazi as UN envoy to Iraq was not a conspiracy of sending Pakistani troops to Iraq. It was an honor for Pakistan. Opposition parties should avoid negative propaganda on the issue.
He said Pakistan was not hosting terror camps on its territory; the US report on terrorist camps in Pakistan has similarity dealt with the US WMD reports in Iraq.
