AMMAN, 5 August 2004 — The Jordanian Engineers Association, the country’s largest professional union, has decided to boycott one of its members, Raed Qaqish, who doubles as member of the lower house of Parliament, for joining an Israeli official in a TV program, a senior JEA official said yesterday. “The JEA has decided not to invite Qaqish to any unionist activity or to allow him to sponsor any function, because he has violated the Association’s guidelines banning any dealings with the Zionist enemy,” Badi Rafayah told Arab News. Rafayah heads the inter-union Committee for Resisting Normalization with Israel. He said that Qaqish took part in a televised discussion on July 13 at the US-funded, Washington-based satellite channel Al-Hurra with Raanan Gissin, director of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s office, and Palestinian academic Seri Nusseibah.
