MANAMA, 7 August 2004 — A 41-year-old Saudi was seriously injured when his GMC pickup collided with a truck on Sheikh Khalifa ibn Salman Highway near the Seef Mall at 9.50 a.m. yesterday in Manama.
Ismail Al-Dosary suffered serious multiple injuries after the front of his pickup was crushed under the lorry, trapping him inside.
Eleven firefighters with two fire engines managed to free Al-Dosary in about three minutes after they cut through the car.
Paramedics rushed him to Salmanyia Medical Complex where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.
He was said to be in critical but stable condition, according to sources. Azazul Haque, 44, the Indian driver of the lorry that belonged to Falcon Trading, was also taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and later released. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
Speeding Truck Crashes
Meanwhile across the causeway in Alkhobar, a sewage truck crashed into the wall of a housing compound on Thursday morning triggering a huge fire. Security officers cordoned off the area and checked vehicles suspecting terrorist attacks, Al-Yaum daily reported.
Witnesses told the Arabic daily that the accident occurred as a result of speeding.
The driver failed to control the vehicle as it overturned on the old airport road in Dhahran and hit the concrete blocks of the compound.
On Tuesday, two people died and eight others injured in two horrible road accidents in the Eastern Province.
An Indian lost his life when a taxi in which he was traveling hit a traffic signal on King Saud Street in Dammam.
According to Okaz newspaper, the other person died on the Dammam-Jubail Road following a tire burst.
