AMMAN, 8 August 2004 — Jordan’s trade deficit grew by 41.4 percent in the first half of 2004, to 1.28 billion dinars ($1.808 billion), compared with 905 million dinars ($1.278 billion) in the same period of 2003, according to official statistics released yesterday.
With about 20 percent of the total exports to Jordan, Saudi Arabia topped the exporters list replacing Germany, which came atop the list of exporters to Jordan in the first six months of 2003, the General Statistics Department said. Germany came in the fourth place after Saudi Arabia, China and the United States.
However, Jordan’s exports grew by 33 percent in the first half of the year, to 1.307 billion dinars ($1.846 billion), compared with 982 million dinars ($1.387 billion) in the same period of last year.
