JEDDAH, 12 August 2004 — If the spirit of unity and teamwork is strengthened, Pakistanis can play a far better role in improving the country’s image, Shareq Haseeb Khan, consul at the Consulate General of Pakistan, said at a farewell reception hosted in his honor by the Pakistan Repatriation Council (PRC) recently.
Khan praised the community for projecting the image of the country, improving the bond of fraternal relations between the two countries and contributing toward the Kingdom’s development. He appreciated the PRC for representing all segments and sections of the community.
Aziz Ahmed, secretary-general of Pakistan Engineers Society said Khan had been instrumental in extending support to the community. He wished him success in his new assignment.
Jameel Rathore of Pakistan Journalists Forum urged Khan to convey to the authorities back home the plight of the stranded Pakistanis and seek their urgent repatriation.
Sardar Rahmat also reiterated the PRC plea that the issue of stranded Pakistanis be resolved on priority. Anwar Rizvi, Rauf Tahir and Habib Siddiqui also spoke.
PRC convener Ehsanul Haque recalled Khan’s role in arranging a formal meeting with Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar in September, which enabled PRC to present a memorandum to President Pervez Musharraf on the repatriation and rehabilitation of stranded Pakistanis on self-finance basis.
