Concerning the problem of cell phones with cameras at weddings, I have heard a great deal. People say that these cell phones “brought us problems.” I do not understand why these people do not realize that these cell phones have created no problems anywhere in the world except in our society. There is a serious problem with some of our people who think that our society is unlike any other in the world.
The problem is not simply how we use cell phones but how we use technology in general. The technology that we misuse is technology that we did not produce. Often when we take technology from beyond our borders, we fail to use it in the proper way.
For example, automobiles are a form of technology that we do not produce. When we bought the technology from both East and West, we showed everybody that we have the highest accident rate in the world. The rest of the world uses automobiles as transportation. We use them to kill other drivers or, at the very least, to injure and handicap them. Nor did we invent cell phones; they were produced in lands beyond our borders. The rest of the world uses them as a means of communication. We, however, use them to spread immorality and to annoy people.
Why are we like this — always misusing technology and the things which technology produces? There is no problem with technology itself. It is meant to serve human beings, to help them and to make life easier. We who misuse technology are harming ourselves and others. We must stop blaming cell phones with cameras of being the main problem; they are not. The problem is with how we use them. There is no problem with cars, computers, the Internet or cell phones because they are machines and cannot control themselves. It is in the minds of ignorant and uninformed people that the problem is found. If we worked to get rid of ignorance and a lack of accurate information, we would be doing ourselves and our society a great service. And we might also learn how to use technology as it was meant to be used.
