RAFHA, 24 August 2004 — Four people were killed and 38 injured, some of them seriously, in a tragic accident that involved a public transport bus and a small truck in Rafha on the international road linking the Kingdom’s northern regions with Jordan and Syria.
The accident occurred when the Sudanese driver of the Diana truck fell asleep and collided head-on with the crowded bus coming from Syria. The truck was carrying two camels, which died on the spot.
The bus, carrying more than 45 passengers, belonged to the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO).
Police sources said the accident occurred at 4.00 a.m. and the fatalities included one Sudanese and three Syrians, including a woman. The injured were hospitalized.
