ABU DHABI, 25 August 2004 — There have been blatant cases of forgery on employment contracts bearing the stamp of the Philippine labor attaché in Abu Dhabi, a newspaper here reported yesterday.
According to the Khaleej Times, embassy officials confirmed that such cases involved affidavit of support and guarantee documents with a forged signature of the consul.
“The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) would usually bring to our notice employment contracts which appear to have not passed through my office or do not carry my signature. The forgery is being done in the Philippines,” it quoted Labor Attaché Annabella Oliveros as saying.
“Documents submitted to the POEA are scrutinized and safeguards are in place to avoid forgery. We process computerized documents and we can easily verify if the processed papers are genuine,” she added.
“There had been instances when they have forged the stamp of the Philippine Embassy and Philippine Overseas Labor Office seals, including my signature.”
Ambassador Libran Cabactulan said the embassy received reports that documents bearing a fake signature of Consul Jose Cabrera were being sold for 300 dirhams in Dubai.
