JEDDAH, 25 August 2004 — Police have seized nearly 70,000 pieces of live ammunition, several guns, 1,300 dynamites and other explosives from smugglers in Asir and Najran regions during the past three days, Okaz reported yesterday quoting security sources.
The seizure came as the special forces launched a massive hunt for terrorists in Buraidah and Makkah.
Police meanwhile arrested an Arab man near a residential building close to the Geological Survey Society in Jeddah on Sunday on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack. Brig. Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman of the Interior Ministry, said the man did not possess any weapons and that police acted on a tip-off.
In a related development, police released the wife and three children of Saleh Al-Aufi, one of the 11 wanted terrorists still on the run. Abdullah Al-Alawi, the woman’s father, said his daughter was in good health.
