JEDDAH, 30 August 2004 — A new endowment fund will be established soon to encourage charitable projects in the health sector, according to Saleh Al-Asheikh, minister of Islamic affairs, endowments and propagation.
He said the ministries of health and Islamic affairs would sign a memorandum of understanding to launch the fund.
“Revenues of this fund will be used to establish primary health care projects and finance purchase of medical equipment required by patients, especially those suffering from chronic diseases,” Al-Asheikh said in a statement.
Part of the fund will be given for preventive health projects and health research, the minister said.
He commended the support being received by the endowment sector from the government as well as philanthropists.
