MANAMA, 19 September 2004 — National air carriers operating flights between Bahrain and Qatar can now fly passenger and cargo flights between the two countries without prior permission.
The decision follows a “flight freedom” agreement signed between the two countries on Wednesday. The agreement — which allows airlines from both countries to operate as many flights as needed — adopted clauses that respects and promotes free trade in addition to its inclusion of flight safety requirements.
The assistant undersecretary for civil aviation at the Ministry of Transport, Capt. Abdul Rahman Muhammad Al-Qaood, who signed the agreement with the head of the Qatari civil aviation, Abdul Aziz Muhammad Al-Nouami, said the agreement was an important stepping-stone to improve civil aviation in the region.
“The agreement strengthens the economic and social ties between the two countries, and allows for closer and stronger ties to be developed,” said Capt. Al- Qaood.
