JEDDAH, 22 September 2004 — ALJ Community Services Programs, a project of Abdul Latif Jameel Company, intend to provide 7,500 jobs to Saudis by the end of next year, a press statement by the organization said.
It said Finance Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf visited the ALJ’s community service center at the old chamber of commerce building in Jeddah’s Hindawiya district and commended ALJ’s community services.
“Dr. Al-Assaf urged Saudi youth to make use of ALJ’s programs and set an example to others for ensuring the program’s success,” the statement said.
Earlier, the minister distributed car keys to a group of youngsters who have joined in ALJ’s taxi ownership program. He also met with a number of young Saudis taking part in various training programs at the center.
Muhammad Jameel, chairman of ALJ Community Services, briefed the minister on his organization’s various activities including its fund to support small-scale projects and its productive family program.
Adel Faqeeh, chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was present during Dr. Al-Assaf’s visit to the center.
ALJ is currently organizing a workshop for women in Hail, its second in the region, in cooperation with UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA) and Aja Women’s Society as part of its efforts to activate women’s associations in the Kingdom.
Some 25 trainees of Aja society as well as female officials of other charitable and educational societies in the Hail region are attending. “The program aims at improving management skills and capabilities of Aja’s officials,” the statement said.
This is the fifth workshop of its kind organized by ALJ Community Services in cooperation with ESCWA. Dr. Muna Al-Munjid, a senior ESCWA official in the Kingdom for social development projects, supervises it. The previous workshops were held in Jeddah, Hail and Qasim.
