RIYADH, 30 September 2004 — Italian Minister of Agriculture Dr. Giovanni Alemanno will visit the Kingdom in November for high-level talks to identify investment opportunities in the agri-industrial sector. This was disclosed here yesterday by Italy’s Vice Minister of Agriculture and Member of Parliament Dr. Paolo Scarpa Bonazza Buora at his meeting with Amr A. Al-Dabbagh, governor of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA).

Dr. Buora and his delegation comprising government officials and businessmen were briefed on the Kingdom’s investment environment, the Saudi Foreign Investment Law and other business laws to safeguard the investors’ rights.

Speaking on the occasion, Italian Ambassador Dr. Armando Sanguini said Italy was keen to strengthen the bilateral program with Saudi Arabia, particularly in water and irrigation, fishing and aquaculture systems, as well as collaboration on safety issues related to agricultural mechanization and in pursuing common interests in the agri-industrial sector.

Saudi-Italian interest in the agricultural sector took a concrete shape earlier when both countries decided to set up a desk at SAGIA.
