RIYADH, 15 October 2004 — Riyadh Toastmasters Club conducted a “Youth Leadership Program” here for children aged 10 to 18 at the local Multinational School under the chairmanship of T.M. Aftab Khan. T.M. Roque D’Costa was chief coordinator.
Speaking on the occasion, Khan and D’Costa said that “Arab News has always promoted events organized by Toastmasters Clubs all over the Kingdom and its Editor in Chief Khaled Almaeena has personally supported the club”. Almaeena has been the winner of the club’s international award for excellence in communication on two previous occasions, they said.
Khan said 30 youngsters participated in the youth leadership program which was the second hosted by RTM.
A majority of them were students of Riyadh Multinational School. Children from the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, South Africa, Poland, Jordan, India and Saudi Arabia took part in the workshop.
“During the program all participants were given a chance to assume leadership roles in front of the audience,” said Khan adding that the final day of the workshop included a speech contest under the leadership of immediate Past Division ‘A’ Governor ATM-G Vincent Gargaritano as chief judge. Fourteen contestants took part in the table topics contest and 11 contestants for the prepared speech contest.
Amala Abraham and Sagar Verma won the first place for the table topics contest and the speech contest respectively. Division ‘A’ Governor DTM Douglas Keeler was the chief guest who gave away the prizes for the winners of the contest. Division ‘G’ Governor Abdul Rauof Mukhtar, Area 1 Governor Hassan Maghazel, Area 4 Governor Abraham Daniel and Area 5 Governor DTM Zaheeruddin Ahmed were also present.
President Khan said that the Toastmasters Club in Saudi Arabia is a growing non-profit organization and its membership is open to all. Its focus in the Kingdom is more on community service, which includes recreation, leadership training, career mapping and field trips besides other social and cultural activities.
