ZAMBOANGA CITY, 17 October 2004 - Gunmen barged into a house and killed three members of a fishing family, including an infant, on a remote town in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga Sibugay, a regional police commander said yesterday. Police deputy Director General Vidal Querol said the killing was discovered early yesterday by neighbors who alerted the local authorities.
He identified those killed as Ibrahim Asimudin, his wife Sarma and their nine-month old child Esmar. Querol said the trio were probably killed on Friday.
"Gunmen massacred Ibrahim Asimudin, his wife and their child and police forces are now hunting down the assailants," Querol said. Police suspect a long-time family feud. "We have suspects already and they are now the object of our manhunt," he said.
