JUBAIL, 19 October 2004 — The Royal Commission has banned 24 barber shops in Jubail industrial city from serving the public until they follow new health regulations strictly. One of the regulations stipulates that they should never serve customers having furuncle or lice to make sure that the diseases are not transmitted to other customers.
The health services department at the Royal Commission has also ordered workers in food stores and restaurants to wear gloves for hygienic reasons.
The commission wants to make sure that all health measures are followed through its environmental health department.
To ensure that health procedures are strictly followed, environmental health officials carry out field inspections daily at supermarkets and restaurants. If any violation is detected, the offenders are fined and sometimes the store is closed down. Inspectors pay surprise visits to supermarkets looking for items whose sell-by dates are passed.
