RIYADH, 16 December 2004 — The Sri Lankan Expatriates’ Society (SLES) in Riyadh will hold its annual charity bazaar to raise funds for its free medical clinic and other humanitarian projects at the Sri Lankan Embassy here today. The charity bazaar will begin at 5 p.m.
Sri Lankan Ambassador Ibrahim Sahib Ansar will be the chief guest while the guest of honor will be Managing Director of First International Network Mohammed Mumtaz Ansari.
The project chairman of the charity fair and senior Vice President of the SLES Abdulsattar M. Illyas told Arab News the proceeds will be diverted to the society’s welfare projects. “We have a free medical clinic where more than 200 Sri Lankan families get treatment,” said Illyas adding that Consultant Physician Dr. Siva Subramaniam and Pediatrician Mohammed Shaheed from the Security Forces Hospital (SFH) supported by a team of paramedical staff were working voluntarily since the inception of the clinic in 1994. The clinic is held on Fridays at the Sri Lankan International School.
Some 30 stalls will be set up at the charity bazaar selling Sri Lankan products that will include household goods, CDs, appliances, gems and jewelry, cosmetics, clothes, fancy items, fruits, vegetables and groceries including the world famous Ceylon Tea.
The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lankan mission headed by the wife of the ambassador, Nissa Ansar, will retail a wide range of exclusive Sri Lankan products.
