JEDDAH, 17 December 2004 - Jeelani Hussain of Srinagar, Kashmir, wants to work in the Gulf for a "different" reason. "I need a job anywhere in the Gulf, as I need money to continue to treat my cancer-stricken father," Jeelani says in his e-mail to Arab News.
Jeelani, who had his schooling in Srinagar and bachelor's degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad, has done a range of advanced courses in computer and IT. He is employed as a senior IT professional with an English daily in Jammu & Kashmir since 1999. His responsibilities include designing and content management of the online edition of the newspaper. He is also responsible for maintenance of Windows 2000 server and network administration, development of multimedia production and presentation, desktop publishing and prepress operations, graphic designing, etc. "With an additional charge of manager, IT Systems, I'm responsible for introducing new IT-based technologies and procuring IT equipments," says Jeelani who earlier worked in senior executive positions with a multimedia company and a multimedia academy in New Delhi.
"I've completed a two-year advanced diploma course in systems management from India's reputable IT education institute and am Microsoft certified desktop support technician," he says. "The certification proves that I've the skills to successfully support end-users and troubleshoot desktop environments running on the Microsoft Windows operating systems."
