MANAMA, 17 December 2004 — A Bahraini policeman was killed yesterday when his car collided with another car at the height of a downpour on the outskirts of the capital, officials said.
Responding paramedics from the BDF Hospital said 45-year-old Atiq Ahmed Saleh Al Sawedi was killed on the spot. They said his neck was broken and he suffered internal bleeding injuries in the chest. Two other Bahrainis who were in the other car also suffered injuries and were confined at the BDF Hospital.
Police said the accident occurred in A’ali just outside Manama a about noon when Al Sawdi tried to overtake another car and turned left toward a school where he was supposed to begin his guard duty.
The Bahraini man in the car Al Sawdi tried to overtake escaped uninjured, but his car sustained minor damage in the accident. Sources said that those involved in the accident were found not to have worn seat belts.
