RIYADH, 21 December 2004 — Prince Alwaleed ibn Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), handed a one million Egyptian pound donation to Egyptian first lady, Ms. Suzanne Mubarak, to help finance development projects during his visit to Egypt.

“The donation was in response to the Egyptian Red Crescent’s call for financial support for its development projects,” said a statement issued by the KHC.

Prince Alwaleed commended the first lady for her active role and efforts in the social and humanitarian services. Mrs. Mubarak thanked Prince Alwaleed for his donation and continuous support for the people of Egypt.

Prince Alwaleed has taken up a number of philanthropic causes in Egypt. These included a 1 million pound donation to the first lady’s campaign for the treatment of children suffering from cancer. He also donated 2 million pounds to support the programs of the Future Generation Organization in Egypt, and 10,000 pounds to each family of the 374 victims who perished in the 2002 train accident in Egypt.
