JEDDAH, 28 December 2004 — Toastmasters International conducted a training program for its club officers of the Western Province in Jeddah recently. Seven clubs took part in the event.
Abdul Latif Jameel Toastmasters Club, Tanglaw Toastmasters Club, Pace Toastmasters Club and Al-Sharm Toastmasters Club took part in the “Learn to teach, teach to learn” program, while Hope Toastmasters Club, Jeddah Toastmasters Club and PSME Toastmasters Club participated in the “Let teamwork make our dreams work” area.
“It’s a fantastic training session,” Abdul Raouf Al-Moukhtar, an Aramco employee and a senior divisional officer of TM International, who was the chief guest, remarked. “This will surely enrich the knowledge of Toastmasters in Jeddah, Yanbu and Riyadh.”
Abdul Latif Jameel Toastmasters club was represented by its president Ajaz Ahmed Qureshi, Mustafa E. Rampurawala, Mohammed Rashid Ali, Azhar Ahmed Khan, Abdul Rahman Mubarak and Mohammed Arshad Masood. The Tanglaw Toastmasters Club had seven representatives, including its president Dan S. Factoran. Pace toastmasters Club had 10 representatives including its president Mohammed Abdul Quddus Javeed, and Al-Sharm Toastmasters Club had its president Hamed Badrani and four other members.
Hope Toastmasters Club had seven members including is president John Britto, Jeddah Toastmasters Club was represented by four members and PSME with eight members, including its president Joselito a. Arellano.
Toastmasters International is a movement devoted to making effective oral communication a worldwide reality, said Mohammed Rashid Ali, an area officer of TM International.
A Toastmasters club is a “learn-by-doing” workshop in which members hone their skills in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. On joining a Toastmasters club, a person progresses through a series of 10 speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking.
“There is no instructor in a Toastmasters club,” he said. Instead, members evaluate one another’s oral presentations.
