BAHRAIN, 29 December 2004 — Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Ghait dismissed yesterday rumors concerning the return of the Egyptian ambassador to Israel, as he denied any mediator role for his country in the ongoing conflict between Saudi Arabia and Libya.
Abul Ghait, who was speaking during a press conference in Bahrain as part of a four-day GCC tour, also called on the Iraqis to find ways to have the Sunnis represented in any future government.
“There is no accuracy to reports concerning the return of the Egyptian ambassador to Israel, “ Abul Ghait told reporters when asked about rumors concerning reports of the possibility for Egypt and Jordan to return their ambassadors to Israel. Abul Ghait added that the return of the ambassador was the logical thing but indicated that the current situation does not allow for the return of the ambassador who was withdrawn during the start of the Intifada based on an Egyptian vision of the circumstances at the time.
