MUSCAT, 31 December 2004 — Oman and Egypt "share common views on the situation in Palestine, the Iraqi crisis and their impact on the region as well as the expansion of the UN Security Council."
This was stated after the Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee’s 10th session chaired by Foreign Minister Yusuf ibn Alawi and his Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Abu Al-Ghait.
Expressing satisfaction over the outcome of the meeting, the Egyptian minister called it another step toward the enhancement of bilateral ties in economic, cultural, scientific, social and political fields. “The committee would work for the promotion and development of trade and economic ties by way of setting up joint ventures, especially in tourism, ‘’ he added. The meeting was also marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Muscat Securities Market and Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchanges designed to enhance investment at both ends as well as market competitiveness and liquidity.
A statement released by the official news agency ONA said the agreement also aimed at removing barriers in the way of joint investment initiatives, exchanging expertise and promoting mass awareness through joint educational programs.’’
