RIYADH, 4 January 2005 — Donations in cash and kind are pouring in for the tsunami victims in Sri Lanka following an initiative taken by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh in association with the Riyadh-based Sri Lankan Expatriates Society. The latest addition to the list is a contribution from the International Islamic Relief Organization, IIRO of Makkah-based Muslim World League which donated SR750,000 on Sunday. The Secretary-General of the IIRO, Dr. Adnan Ibn Khaleel Basha, said the funds will be remitted to the Saudi Embassy in Colombo for necessary relief work and added that the implementation of the program will be carried out by the organization in coordination with the Saudi Ambassador Mohamed Mahmud Al Ali. Members of the Saudi royal family have also sent contributions to the Lankan Embassy here. Princess Sarah bint Sultan Ibn Abdulaziz Al-Saud offered a cash donation of SR10,000 and Princess Nouf bint Faisal Al-Turki sent two truckloads of dry rations which include sugar, rice infant foods and medicines.
