DOHA, 13 January 2005 — Qatar’s government decided yesterday to partially open the stock market in the gas-rich country to foreign investors, the state news agency QNA reported.
Mohammed ibn Issa Hamad Al-Mehannadi, minister of state for Cabinet affairs, quoted by QNA, said non-Qataris would be allowed to own up to 25 percent of companies listed on Qatar’s bourse.
“This decision aims to boost activity and develop the Qatari stock market,” which has a capitalization of some $40 billion, said financial analyst Beshir Al-Kahlut.
