MAKKAH, 22 January 2005 — The recent tsunami disaster had little effect on the number of pilgrims from Southeast Asia, according to Adnan Kateb, chairman of South Asian Tawafa Organization.

“Tsunami did not have any great effect on the number of pilgrims. There was no significant shortage in number. Only 10 pilgrims from South Asia did not show up. The rest of pilgrims arrived on time,” Kateb told Arab News.

He said he had heard about the new restructured Haj administration system that is to be announced soon by the minister of Haj. He expressed hope that the new system would help Haj institutions and Tawafa agencies.
