JEDDAH, 25 October 2005 — Madinah Governor Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Majed will open today the charitable housing project in Nabah village, which is located on the west coast. The governor will hand over keys of 188 houses to deserving citizens. King Abdullah Housing Foundation carried out the project at a cost of SR40 million.
Dr. Yousuf Al-Othaimeen, secretary-general of the foundation, said the low-cost houses are fully furnished and ready for use. “The houses are designed in such a way that they could be expanded in accordance with the needs of their new owners,” he said.
The project also includes mosques, schools, health, community and training centers, basic services such as water, electricity, telephone lines, roads and sewage network, Othaimeen said.
He said the Nabah project was part of an emergency housing scheme, which aims at establishing 2,200 houses for the poor in various parts of the Kingdom in the first phase at a total cost of SR500 million.
“It will be followed by other projects in order to provide good housing facilities to the poor and needy in various parts of the country,” he said.
adding that the scheme would help replace shabby and dilapidated houses in poor neighborhoods with modern housing units.
