RIYADH, 29 November 2005 — The Arab Gulf Program for United Nations Development Organizations (AGFUND) will honor the winners of this year’s AGFUND prizes for pioneering development projects at a ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa, on Dec. 8. Prince Talal, AGFUND president, will give away the prizes.
The prize committee has also announced the topics for 2006 prizes. The first category covers areas of sustainable primary health services, training and job creation for the rural poor. Selected projects implemented by the United Nations and international or regional organizations will be considered for the prize. In the second category, projects implemented by NGOs especially in the field of education services and employment in rural areas will be considered. Vocational and employment projects initiated, sponsored or executed by individuals will be awarded the prize in the third category. Nominations will be received until the end of April.
Enda Inter-Arab organization for micro-credit for disadvantaged suburbs of Tunisia won the 2005 prize along with Kashf Foundation of Pakistan (second category) and Maria Teresa Garcia Moises and Marta Beatriz Orantes Gamboa of Mexico (third category).
