ASIR, 27 August 2006 — A couple here was divorced right after they were married after the mother of the bride threw a hissy-fit over the car that was going to escort her daughter from the celebration, the Okaz daily reported yesterday. For some reason, the practical Toyota Camry just wasn’t good enough; the old lady wanted her precious princess to be chauffeured away in a stretch limousine. In fact, she unreasonably insisted on the groom getting a fancier car right there and then. The groom tried to reason with her, that it was too late to be scurrying about town trying to drum up an acceptable ride. The woman was relentless however, and, finally, the groom came to the sad realization that this raving lunatic of a woman would be his mother-in-law if he didn’t break off the nuptials right there and then. And so, alas, he uttered three times the words that ended the marriage, and drove off in his practical car.
Nurse in Men’s Shoes Causes Confusion
TAIF, 27 August 2006 — A nurse here who didn’t bother to buy some new shoes to replace her old ripped ones, borrowed her neighbor’s shoes for the day and went to work never imagining that the men’s shoes she had borrowed, would get her in trouble with the police, the Al-Watan daily reported yesterday. The shoes raised suspicion with hospital security who thought she was a man in drag and prevented her from going inside. Men dressing up in female attire and going to female-only venues is often reported in the local media. Thinking they had a similar case on their hands, they notified the police. The police detained her and asked her to come with them for interrogation. It was then that her co-workers noticed the commotion and came to her rescue. They told the police that she worked with them and was in fact a woman. The hospital administration decided to punish her by deducting a day’s salary and ordering her to buy some new women’s shoes.
