JEDDAH, 8 May 2006 — Effat College ended its Fifth Annual Career Day, entitled “Against All Odds: Women on the Cutting Edge of Change” on Saturday.
During the event, a panel discussion was held featuring the US Consul General in Jeddah Tatiana Gfoeller. Other panel members were Nashwa Taher, board member of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Majed Garoub, chairman of the Saudi Law Training Center; and Qusai Filali, director of the labor office in Jeddah.
Garoub said he was looking for better career opportunities in Saudi society, especially for women. “There is a budget surplus of SR150 billion,” he said. “People of this country must benefit from that.”
Garoub said he thought that meetings and workshops should be held with representatives of women’s communities to suggest suitable jobs for women.
Taher suggested that we follow the steps of women who lived in the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). “Women at that time used to work hard to provide for their living expenses,” she said.
In the afternoon, Isam Gari, a training consultant in behavioral management, presented a workshop entitled “Mental Freedom and Professional Success” in an entertaining interactive fashion. He discussed skills and techniques for a successful career.
Also part of the event were booths of more than 20 companies, which had 60 vacancies for job seekers. The companies that participated included Olayan, Riyad Bank, Saudi Law Training Center, Proctor & Gamble, Bakhsh Hospital and Chantelle. The place was crowded with women looking for jobs.
