RIYADH, 6 June 2006 — A Saudi businessman flew from Riyadh to Jizan to secure the release of an Indian truck driver who was jailed there four months ago for causing an accident in which a Yemeni national was seriously injured.
Abdullah Al-Nahadh learned that truck driver K. Mohammed was arrested after his vehicle hit the Yemeni, who having crossed into the Kingdom illegally, was fleeing Saudi border guards.
The Yemeni man is still in a coma.
When Al-Nahadh learned of the detention, he immediately flew to Jizan and secured Mohammed’s release on Saturday. At his personal expense he flew Mohammed to Riyadh on Sunday.
This was not the first time that Al-Nahadh has extended help to expatriate prisoners. He rescued four Indians from imprisonment in the past by mobilizing his personal resources and contacts. All four had been involved in serious road accidents.
In March, Abdullah helped secure the release of Indian truck driver Doraiswamy. The Indian had been detained after the water tanker he had been driving plowed into a car killing two Saudi youths over a year ago.
Speaking to Arab News at his office Al-Nahadh said: “I like Indians very much. They are a hard working and peace-loving people.” He added he would always extend his services to help Indians in genuine situations.
According to Hasan Abdulgader, a Saudi businessman who graduated from Aligarh Muslim University in India in 1994, Al-Nahadh’s mission in life is to serve humanity. Members of the Riyadh Indian Association who attended a party to celebrate Mohammed’s release expressed similar views.
