Business executives have their good and bad traits, but their success depends on facing challenges in the dog-eat-dog world of commerce with positive, optimistic and assertive thinking.

Being positive means attaining your goals by interacting directly with all aspects related to the success or failure of an executive’s endeavors.

When people use their energy, creativity and money they must not be passive, they must not wait for success to come to them, they must not wish for success without taking steps toward attaining success.

Saudis have a legacy of dealing positively and taking advantage of opportunities, investing directly and achieving financial success. Today, it seems many business executives don’t have the ability or patience to work toward long-term goals.

They think inside the box of quick-return capital gains through investment in securities, and they want instant paybacks from their stock portfolios. This passive strategy has become a common trait among Saudi businessmen. This is prevalent in their larger worldview about society. They live in a community that is separate from the one you and I live in.

For example, what have our entrepreneurs done to reduce unemployment? I’m not talking about Saudization (the government strategy for reducing unemployment among Saudis through private-sector quotas).

I’m talking about initiatives from their own community to resolve the issue of jobless Saudis.

What have they done to educate Saudis? What have they done to help eradicate bribery and other bad habits that adversely affect society as a whole?

They should be expected to be wiser, with long-term visions on how to better our society as a whole. Only then would they deserve the respect and support of the people.
