ABU DHABI, 18 February 2007 — In line with the directives of Gen. Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Abu Dhabi crown prince and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, work has started to construct residential cities to accommodate 300,000-400,000 laborers working in construction and development projects in Abu Dhabi, the official news agency WAM reported yesterday. The project is expected to last two years.
Those cities and complexes are going to be constructed in Al-Mafraq area at a cost of Dh2.5 billion. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed, chief of the Abu Dhabi crown prince’s court, said the project will replace the old workers’ residential complex at Mohammad bin Zayed City.
Sheikh Hamed made it clear that instructions of Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed to build five residential cities for workers: three in Abu Dhabi, and two in Al-Ain. Those cities and residential complexes will be constructed according to international standards and regulations.
Jaber Hareb Al Khaili, acting CEO of Zonescorp, which is overseeing the entire project, explained that all safety and security measures will be in place in those cities.
