AMMAN, 22 February 2007 — Three international firms have technically qualified for carrying out Jordan’s Disi Water Conveyance Project at an estimated cost of $600 million, a senior Water Ministry official said yesterday.
One of the qualifying firms is Societa Italiana per Condotte d’acqua S.p.A, a Spanish-Italian consortium, the ministry’s official spokesman Adnan Al-Zoabi said.
The other two companies are Gama is Merkezei of Turkey and the Utilities Development Company Holdings (UDCH) of Kuwait, he said.
Al-Zoabi said a technical committee, grouping members from the Finance Ministry, the Audit Bureau and a Swedish consultancy house would study the financial offers presented by the three firms.
“The winning bidder will be announced by mid-March after the panel analyses the bids,” he added.
According to Minister of Water and Irrigation Thafer Al-Alem, the implementation of the Disi project should start before June and be completed in four years.
