DAMMAM, 26 February 2007 — The deputy governor of the Eastern Province has expressed admiration for the humanitarian services offered by a charitable organization that supports seriously ill patients.
Prince Jalawi ibn Abdul Aziz ibn Musaed commended the the Friends of Patients Society in the Eastern Province while addressing a function held on the society’s 25th anniversary on Saturday. The prince stressed the significance of the organization’s work, which includes supporting hospitals by setting up new units offering advanced treatment.
The prince noted that by visiting patients suffering from serious diseases and offering help, the society has done a lot to boost their morale. The prince added that he would like to see the society increase its programs to create awareness about the importance of caring for the sick.
Describing the services of the society as a mark of true patriotism, the prince called on businessmen and philanthropists in the region to put together their efforts to formulate programs that lessen the suffering of the sick.
Dr. Okail Al-Ghamdi, president of the society and director general of health affairs in the province, said recent donations for the cause exceeded SR350 million. “The society mainly relies on businessmen, who respond enthusiastically to the calls of the society and serve as a continual source of funding to the numerous charitable work that the society carries out,” he said.
The society’s website was also launched during the event. Businessman Abdullah Fuad donated SR20 million to construct a center for contagious diseases in Dammam. The hospital will be named Abdullah Fuad Medical Center, said Al-Ghamdi. The meeting also honored a number of people who support the society’s activities.
They include Prince Saud ibn Naif, Abdul Wahab Al-Babtain, Abdul Latif Al-Jabar, Abdul Aziz Kanoo, Saad Al-Moajel, Abdullah Al-Afaliq, Abdul Aziz Al-Rashid, Nassir Muhammad Ahmad, Abdul Razaq Al-Ansari, Hamad Al-Zamil, Khaled Al-Olayan, Abdul Aziz Al-Qahtani and Muhammad Al-Fouzan.
