ISLAMABAD/KARACHI, 5 March 2007 — Pakistan yesterday asked India to share the findings of its investigation into the train bombing that killed 66 people, most of them Pakistanis.
Speaking in Karachi, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said he would ask the government of India to inform Islamabad of the investigation’s outcome and also to share the report with Pakistan. The prime minister was speaking to journalists after distributing compensation to the family members of the Samjhauta Express victims. He described the attack as a tragic incident perpetrated by terrorists who do not want normalization of relations between Pakistan and India. Aziz said, “We have asked India to work jointly to step up security measures for preventing any similar attack in future.”
Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Satyabrata Pal has said India will share the findings of the train blast probe with Pakistan. He said New Delhi would provide the information at a meeting scheduled for March 6 in Islamabad. He said the information could not be handed over now because evidence is still in the process of being collected.
Barber Shops Bombed
Two bombs targeting barber shops and a music store exploded in northwestern Pakistan, where militants have issued threats against shaving beards and selling music cassettes.
One bomb exploded late Saturday while the other went off before dawn yesterday in Inayat Kalay, a market town in Bajaur tribal region, said Muwaz Khan, a government security official in the region.
A shop selling music cassettes and CDs and two barber shops were damaged in the explosions but there were no casualties because the shops were closed and no one was inside, Khan said.
