MAKKAH, 6 March 2007 — The Passport Department in Makkah arrested an Arab expatriate carrying a fake Saudi ID. The expatriate said that he came into the Kingdom on an Umrah visa last year and “bought” the Saudi ID for SR1,000.

The man identified only as Mansour told the authorities that he had been working as a security guard for three months for a SR1,200-a-month salary. He allegedly confessed that he used the ID to land the job.

Mansour said that he managed to get the ID soon after coming into the Kingdom.

He said an acquaintance had told him about someone who could help him get a Saudi ID that would make it easy for him to move around the Kingdom and even get a job. Police arrested him after he refused to tell them where he was issued the ID.
