JEDDAH, 8 March 2007 — Jeddah Biotechnical Company Limited (JBC) launched recently the building of a new factory for the production of blood derivatives at the industrial zone in Madinah.
The new company, registered under the name “Blood Derivatives International Co. Ltd.”, will be built at a cost of $200 million and projected to have an annual production capacity of 500MT of plasma.
Commenting on this project, Dr. Sultan Bahbri, chairman of JBC, said: “The basic designs of the factory were carried out by an international expert in engineering of pharmaceutical and biological projects. The project will be built on an area of 50,000 square meters,and all international requirements and standards including the standards of SMFA and the WHO were taken into consideration in the initial designs of the project.”
He stressed that the Blood Derivatives International Co. “is the first factory of its kind in the Islamic world that is built by the private sector and would form an important addition to the international market in view of the great shortage in quality blood derivatives globally.”
He explained that the construction work will be carried out by a local contractor in cooperation with two international companies specialized in the business. “Work is expected to be completed within the coming three years and the factory shall be ready for production in 2010,” he added.
Dr. Bahbri further said that “through the Blood Derivatives International Co. Ltd, we target a market with an annual sales of $150 million in the Middle East and North Africa.”
