CAIRO, 12 March 2007 — Tunisian actress Hind Sabri was arrested and charged with allegedly running over a pedestrian at Cairo’s Giza Square in the early hours of Friday. Sabri alleges that the youth she ran over jumped in front of her speeding car.
Sabri fled the scene of the accident and was later arrested by police after the injured man gave a description of the car and its “beautiful” driver.
She was released on bail of 200,000 Egyptian pounds ($35,000) and has since sought refuge at the Tunisian Embassy.
According to reports, the young man she ran over is being treated for injuries to his head and hands at the Umm Al-Misryeen Hospital in Giza.
“I was driving from Abbas Kobri to Haram Street when a young man jumped in front of my car; he was speaking on his cell phone,” said Sabri.
Sabri, 27, made her film debut at the age of 14 in the controversial Tunisian film ‚“Somt Al-Qusur.” In 2000 she moved to Egypt and has acted in a number of Egyptian films including the award-winning movie “Emarat Yakubian.”
