ALKHOBAR, 14 March 2007 — Kimverlie Molina, last year’s winner of The Filipino Channel Popstar title in Dubai, will lead a concert tomorrow at the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, organizers said.
Dubbed “An Evening with the Popstar,” the event, which starts at 5 p.m., will also feature Popstar national finalists Cindy Dela Cruz, Richard Balgos and Stephen Fuentes; Coline Fernandez, the 2006 Birit Bulilit grand champion in Saudi Arabia; Neribe Doloricon, Beat Static Dancers and the Filipino Pop Music Center (Filpop) talents. Edwin Mercado directs the show.
“This is the first major concert of Kim after taking home fame and wealth in the TFC Popstar grand showdown,” said Rani Basanta, CEO of concert organizer Special Events Productions (SEP).
Basanta said part of the proceeds from the show will go to Rence Bretren Balatazar, a boy who is suffering from leukemia in Riyadh and needing immediate bone marrow transplant.
Molina, a senior student of the Philippine School in Dammam (PSD), was only 14 years old when she represented the Kingdom in the TFC Popstar 2006 singing competition in Dubai on June 2 last year.
Basanta said SEP and Filpop are jointly launching a massive exposure for her as an artist that would eventually lead to a series of concerts in the Kingdom.
“The support of SEP is always here at all times because we do not want Kim’s popularity and stardom to stand still,” Basanta said.
Dr. Ronnie Molina, founder and executive director of Al-Khobar-based Filpop, said her daughter will also be singing some Arabic pop songs.
Asked about her future plans, young singing sensation said education is her top priority. She said she was using her long school break for her concert and singing career.
