Old and new studies show that the physical abuse some children suffer can cause them many psychological problems. These mental issues are very difficult to solve and their effects remain with children in much of their adult lives. Such children live in fear and isolation, and end up lacking confidence and self-respect. These are some of the conclusions drawn from these studies.
Other studies have prodded the issue further and shown that physical abuse could lead youngsters to crime, something which reflects negatively on society. Many families are unfamiliar with what the side effects of physical abuse may be. This is something that differs from one family to another on account of the individual family’s level of education, income and religiosity.
Away from home, in some schools, teachers believe that corporal punishment is the best form of discipline. Such teachers believe they can deal with anything with severe punishment.
For the sake of children’s education, according to some experts and psychologists, no one has the right to touch anyone but on three occasions: To shake hands, to defend oneself and to prevent someone from harming another. Any physical contact apart from the above is wrong and should be penalized.
What is needed is a law that would hold accountable all who abuse students regardless of what the reason may be. Teachers who abuse children should be imprisoned and schools where such things happen should be closed. Everybody should come to realize that harming children is a crime.
State officials need to outline a clear law forbidding people from physically abusing children in the Kingdom’s schools. Those found guilty should be forced to pay a heavy price. The negative effects of such actions reflect badly on society.
