DAMMAM, 18 March 2007 — Amiantit Fiberglass Industries Limited (AFIL) has been presented with a Safety Recognition Award for its contribution to the milestone achievement of 10 million safe hours on the Sharq 3rd expansion project in Jubail. The award covers the total number of safe hours spent by all the suppliers and contractors who have worked on this project.
“On behalf of Amiantit, I thank the management of the Sharq project for this award, which expresses not only an outstanding safety record but also recognizes the high degree of cooperation and coordination between all parties concerned, without which it would not have been possible to achieve this milestone number of safe hours,” Fareed Al-Khalawi, president & CEO of Amiantit, said.
“At the same time I congratulate the management and employees of AFIL for their contribution to this achievement and thank them for upholding the high standard of service and observance of safety practices for which Amiantit is well known.”
AFIL’s contract, worth SR78,750,000, is for the supply of GRP (glass reinforced polyester) pipes and fittings for sea water supply and return, and cooling water supply and return. The contract includes engineering transportation and installation, and also hydro-testing of selected spools.
A technical feature of the Sharq project pipe systems is that they have been designed as a restrained system with lamination joints used to connect the pipes. In addition, the pipe systems are designed to handle high axial tensile strength which eliminates the need for thrust blocks which are the usual standard practice
Amiantit GRP pipes and accessories are manufactured by the Flowtite process, a technology for which Amiantit owns the exclusive world patents. Flowtite pipes are strong, durable, lightweight, easy to install, and corrosion resistant which means that they are environment friendly because they are virtually leak proof.
In addition to their industrial applications, Amiantit GRP pipe systems are used for municipal potable water supply and sewage networks. Amiantit also manufactures GRP corrosion resistant single and double wall tanks for above ground and underground storage of a range of liquids including gasoline and high octane aviation fuel.
