JEDDAH, 31 March 2007 — Kerala Kalasahithi, a cultural organization for expatriate Indians in Jeddah, recently held their fourth cooking competition in which 30 budding chefs vied with one another to cook the most delicious dishes.
Famida Sadiq, Khadeeja Alavi, Ambika Babu and Sunitha Menon won top prizes in the competition, which was held in four categories: chicken, fish, vegetable and payasam (pudding). Other winners included Vasantha Sateesh, Nuzaiba Majeed, Saly Peter, Shantha Abraham, Zahra Ameer, Naseema Ashraf, Usha Shaju and Preethi Murali.
A four-member jury picked the winners from among the contestants. This is the fourth cooking competition organized by Kerala Kalasahithi. Shrafiya Trading Est., the sole distributor of Eastern Food Products in the Western Province, sponsored the event.
The cooked items were on display for the public to see and taste and as many as 600 people, mostly families, watched the competition. Prizes were announced by Musafir and distributed by Baby, Murali Thachangode, Majeed Naha and Roy Mathew, president of the organization.
Islahi Center Silver Jubilee
Hamoud Al-Shimimry, director of Islamic Education Foundation in Mushrifa District, has cautioned the public against the bad influence of Internet and television and urged parents to keep a watch on their children using these electronic media.
He was speaking at a function organized by Indian Islahi Center, run by Keralites, to launch its silver jubilee celebrations. He also called upon Muslims to keep away from all sorts of innovative practices that go against the teachings of Islam. He later unveiled the silver jubilee logo.
Sheikh Mohamed Marzook Al-Harithy, director general of the center earlier inaugurated the festivities. President Professor K. Mohamed, presided over the event which also witnessed a Sri Lankan expatriate worker embracing Islam.
