RIYADH, 2 April 2007 — A border guard was killed in a clash with smugglers who left behind more than three tons of hashish before getting away near the border with Yemen, the Interior Ministry said yesterday. The smugglers, traveling in three vehicles, opened fire with machine guns wounding two other border guards in the shootout on Saturday, the Saudi Press Agency reported. It said the guards were from the Maatif border post on the Yemeni border.
Cops Executed for Murder, Robberies
RIYADH, 2 April 2007 — Two policemen were executed here yesterday for murdering a Bangladeshi taxi driver, the Interior Ministry announced. Abdul-Rahman Al-Qahtani and Mohamed Al-Ghamidi were found guilty of murder and complicity in murdering Abdusattar Ali after they robbed him, it said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency. They were also found guilty of several armed robberies and attacks against other taxi drivers.
Brother Kills Brother Over Inheritance
ARAR, 2 April 2007 — Police have arrested the brother of an Arab worker who disappeared in Arar five days ago. The man confessed to killing his brother and led police to the place where he buried him. Police say the brothers argued over an inheritance issue resulting in the brother that was murdered kicking the other. The other man returned with a metal object and bludgeoned his brother to death. The body was exhumed for an autopsy.
Indonesian Maid’s Body Found
JEDDAH, 2 April 2007 — The body of a 30-year-old Indonesian woman, thought to be a maid, was found in a dumpster behind a shopping center in the Safa district. A man who had come to throw rubbish in the orange dumpster found the woman’s body slumped inside. Police said the woman had seemingly died of natural causes and that there was no trace of violence on the body.
