RIYADH, 11 April 2007 — Former Justice Minister Ibrahim ibn Muhammad Al-Asheikh died yesterday at the age of 88 after a prolonged illness, the Royal Court announced. Al-Asheikh had previously been chairman of Dar Al-Ifta, the official body for issuing religious edicts, and acting chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council. Funeral prayers will be held at Imam Turki ibn Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh today.
Girl Found Buried in Family Home
RIYADH, 11 April 2007 — The dead body of a four-year-old Egyptian girl who was reported missing on Friday was found buried at her family home 72 hours after disappearing in the village of Saad on the Riyadh-Dammam highway, Al-Watan daily reported yesterday. It said the girl’s stepmother and her seven-year-old half-sister, who is autistic, were involved in the crime. The seven-year-old apparently hit the four-year-old, which led to her death, and so the mother buried the body to protect her daughter.
Man Arrested for Photoshop Pranks
DAMMAM, 11 April 2007 — The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice arrested a man in Qatif who would blackmail girl students by manipulating their photographs on a computer making them sexually explicit, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday. On arrest, the man said that a schoolgirl would help him by providing him with photos of fellow pupils. The man would then manipulate the pictures on a computer most probably using Adobe Photoshop. Police are searching for the girl.
Woman Hospitalized With Bullet Wound
MAKKAH, 11 April 2007 — Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the case of a woman in her 30s who was shot in the head, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday. The woman is currently in hospital and her situation is said to be critical. It is still unknown whether she shot herself or whether someone else was involved.
