RIYADH — Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Manie approved yesterday new projects worth SR3 billion.
“The minister has given the green light for a number of projects, including computerization program of 50 hospitals and 300 Family Health Care Centers at a cost of SR680 million,” Health Ministry Projects and Maintenance Manager Muhammad Al-Qahtani said. Under this program, he said, the medical records of the patients will be electronically stored and could be retrieved as and when required by the physicians.
Under the current budget, the ministry will build two specialized centers in Abha General Hospital and King Fahd Hospital in Jizan. The new centers will have 200 beds each at and will cost SR160 million.
The ministry will also build a trauma center, at a cost of SR80 million, at the King Fahd Hospital in Dammam. Funds have been allocated to build maternity hospitals in Tabuk (200 beds), Al-Jumoum (100 beds) and in west Riyadh (300 beds). The projects will cost SR120 million, SR80 million and SR200 million respectively.
Al-Qahtani said that provision has been made for spacious doctors’ and nursing quarters in Riyadh. “We hope to start this project soon since there is a pressing need for providing accommodation for medics and paramedics,” he added.
Since ministerial approval has been obtained, the procedures for the implementation of the projects will commence without delay.
