MAKKAH: Police shot dead an African man who attacked them late on Monday in the Al-Iskan district of Makkah. Local residents reported the man who was initially seen acting suspiciously. A police unit was dispatched and the man was stopped for questioning. However, the man failed to cooperate and attacked the officers.

Maj. Abdul Muhsin Al-Mayman, official spokesman for Makkah police, said the officers were left with no choice but to shoot the man once in order to restrain him. He was immediately taken to Al-Noor Hospital for treatment where he died some hours later.

Al-Iskan neighborhood is home to mainly African overstayers, who are often reported for crimes by locals.
