MADINAH: A truck loaded with 32,000 liters of petrol caught fire after it overturned yesterday 15 kilometers away from the city center on the road to Riyadh, the Civil Defense announced in a press statement.

The statement did not reveal the cause of the fire but said the cargo was completely burned. No casualties were reported except for slight injuries suffered by the driver, who was rushed to hospital.

The statement said three fire-fighting units, two rescue teams, a foam truck, three support units and an ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire, which spread to nearby areas due to leakage from the oil tank, was brought under control, it added.

In another statement, the Civil Defense said it will organize, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, awareness programs on fire-fighting and general safety at summer camps in Madinah. The statement said the awareness courses will cover both Saudi and foreign students.
