JEDDAH: In a report titled “SWCC to be phased out as part of privatization,” published in Arab News on July 31, Loay bin Ahmed Al-Musallam, CEO of the National Water Company (NWC), was erroneously quoted as saying that the newly-formed company would take over desalination plants from the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC).

Fehid Alshareef, governor of SWCC, said the statement was incorrect. He clarified in a statement to Arab News that the NWC would not take over the desalination plants from SWCC.

Alshareef said the desalination plants would continue to be under the responsibility of SWCC, which will become a holding company under the privatization plan approved by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. He, however, added that the SWCC plants would be opened for private sector investment in the model of IWPP (Independent Water and Power Projects).
